In 1955, 15-year-old Claudette Covlin chose not to sit at the back of a bus. "Touting her constitutional rights to remain seated near the middle of the vehicle, Colvin challenged the driver and was subsequently arrested. She was the first woman to be detained for her resistance."
Coretta Scott King was an activist, author, and civil rights leader. After her husband's assassination, she raised her 4 children while working to further her late husband's legacy. She was a tireless advocate for African American rights, and she never let adversity stop her.

Alice Coachman was the first Black woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal! In 1948, she won the high jump at the London Olympics. She earned 34 national titles and was officially inducted into the National Track-and-Field Hall of Fame in 1975 + U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004!!!!
