Nelson Mandela was a leader who fought for freedom and equality in South Africa. He spent many years in prison for standing up against unfair laws that treated Black people badly. After his release, he became the first Black president of South Africa and worked to bring people together. Nelson's bravery and message of forgiveness and peace inspire people all over the world. #BlackHistoryatHawthorne


Dominique Dawes is a famous gymnast who made history as part of the 'Magnificent Seven' — the U.S. gymnastics team that won gold at the 1996 Olympics! She was the first African American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics and inspired many with her hard work, dedication, and grace. Dominique continues to inspire young athletes to follow their dreams. 🤸🏾♀️🏅 #BlackHistoryatHawthorne


Ray Charles was an amazing musician who created beautiful music by combining jazz, blues, and gospel. Even though he lost his eyesight at a young age, Ray didn’t let that stop him. He became known as 'The Genius' because of his incredible talent and made some of the most memorable songs ever, like 'Georgia on My Mind.'
