On June 1, the girls track team will look to win their third title in four years as they travel down to Indiana University for the IHSAA state track meet.

The Lady Warriors had their last regular season meet at North Central for the Marion County championship meet. Despite the strong performances across the board, the ladies came up short placing second to Brebeuf Jesuit.

The team had many county champions including senior Prommyse Hoosier in the long jump, sophomore Tacoria Humphrey in the high jump, junior K’Ja Talley in the 100m hurdles, the 1600m relay, and the 400m relay.

Hoosier came up big for the Lady Warriors at county as she helped score 23 points with her performance in the long jump along with a 6th place finish in the 100m dash and being apart of the 400m relay.

The Lady Warriors got back to their winning ways at Sectionals as they won by 58.5 points and had seven individual champions as well as two sectional champion relays.

“We have bounced back from being second place in county then coming to place 1st to win sectionals by working hard everyday in practice,” Talley said.

The team’s sprinters had a dominant day placing first in second in the 100, 200, 400, and winning both the 400 meter relay as well as the 1600 meter relay.

The distance team also made sure they extended their seasons as they placed third in the 3200 meter relay. These ladies would not go down without a fight as all four runners ran personal records to push the team to their best time of the season.

The team’s great performances were rounded out by their field events. These lady Warriors scored 51 points for the team, with two sectional champions and one runner up.

With the performance the ladies advanced individuals in eight events as well as all three relays.

The Lady Warriors continued their strong performances at the regional meet securing the program’s 18th regional title in history.

As the final destination before state, these ladies did not hold back on trying to punch their tickets to state, advancing individuals in seven events as well as advancing two relays.

Among those advancing was Talley in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles. Talley heads into the state meet leading the state with the best time in the 100m hurdles, but is not letting that stop her from doing her best.

“I plan to stay focused knowing that the target is on my back by keep working on technique and working on details,” Talley said.

The Lady Warriors look to take all of their hard work into the state meet to walk out as champions once again but know they have to be at their best to get the job done.

“As the meets start to lead up to the to State June 1st, it’s the small things that matter,” Talley said. “So when I’m on the track I just always tell myself to give it all I got because there is no next time.”
